Do you own an Apple TV 2nd or 3rd generation? Then you will no longer be able to watch Netflix on these devices from the end of this month. The streaming giant is ending support for these two models.
This means that you will no longer be able to use the Netflix app on these Apple TVs from July 31st. The application will automatically stop working after that date. Users will have to watch Netflix in another way.
Netflix ends support for old Apple TV
Netflix has users by means of an e-mail notified that the Netflix app on Apple TVs from 2010 and 2012 will no longer work after July 31, 2024. At that point, the application will no longer function and streams will no longer be able to be started.
This concerns the Apple TV 2nd generation and Apple TV 3rd generation, which can be recognized by their flatter design, aluminum remote control with two round buttons and circle. On these models, the Netflix app is installed by default and no adjustments can be made or apps installed.
Since the Apple TV 4th generation (HD) from 2015, you can use the App Store and install apps yourself, this Netflix app remains operational.
Alternative options
Do you still have an Apple TV 2nd or 3rd generation and do you use it for Netflix? Then you will no longer be able to do this from July 31, 2024. You will then have to use an alternative to still be able to watch Netflix. Perhaps your TV already has the Netflix app built in as standard or you can consult the service on the TV box of your provider, including Odido, Ziggo or KPN.
Of course you can also switch to a new Apple TV, this offers (read: much) more possibilities and options. A chromecast with Google TV is also one of the options.
