Netflix has announced that it is strongly considering offering a cloud gaming service to its subscribers, in order to create added value. The company also sees its turnover and subscribers growing again.
Netflix Cloud Gaming
For some time now, Netflix has wanted to make it clear that the company means business when it comes to games. There are already some mobile games exclusive to Netflix today and the company recently set up a game studio in the Finnish capital Helsinki. Now the streaming service wants to go even further, as it investigates an investment in cloud gaming and it opens a new studio in the US state of California. That makes Netflix’s vice president for gaming Mike Verdu known to TechCrunch.
A cloud gaming service allows gamers to stream demanding games over their internet connection while the games actually run on data centers. It is noteworthy that Netflix is talking about cloud gaming, because the streaming service has previously only released lighter mobile games. Netflix mainly wants to add added value to its current subscriptions with cloud gaming.
“We’re not asking to subscribe as a replacement for your console. It’s a very different business model. We hope this will eventually become the natural way to game wherever you are,” said Verdu. When Verdu is pointed out that Google has recently stopped its cloud gaming service due to disappointing growth, Verdu says the following. “Stadia was a technical success. It was fun to play on Stadia. There were some issues with the business model.”
Netflix is growing again
Netflix also sees its figures for the third quarter of 2022 announced, which show that the streaming service is growing again. The company managed to convince 2.41 million subscribers, especially in Asian countries. Netflix is thus growing twice more than analysts expected and earlier this year the streaming service saw its number of subscribers decrease.
In its message to shareholders, Netflix reiterated its commitment to account sharing, and last week we were shown the expected price of Netflix’s lower-cost, commercialized subscription. What do you think of Netflix’s gaming plans? Can the service create added value in this way or do you find it little interesting? Let us know in the comments.
