Read the review of the Netgear Orbi 870 here. This Wi-Fi 7 MESH system delivers top performance, but also costs a lot.

The Netgear Orbi 870 is a tri-band Wi-Fi 7 mesh system with a router and two satellites, good for coverage of up to 600 m². It is available in white or black and measures 27 x 15 x 11 cm (H x B x D). Within the Netgear Wi-Fi 7 MESH range, the 970 series is at the top, while the 770 series offers the entry-level model. The differences are in the total transit capacity (Gbps), coverage (m²) and the number of devices supported. In addition, the sets are also available with a router and one satellite.

Wi-Fi 7 and Technology
Wi-Fi 7 (IEEE 802.11BE) offers higher speeds, lower latency and more reliability thanks to wider channels (up to 320 MHz) and Multi-Link Operation (MLO). The Orbi 870 supports three tires (2.4 GHz, 5 GHz and 6 GHz) with a maximum total theoretical transit capacity of 21 Gbps and therefore suitable for demanding connectivity applications. Eight strategically placed antennas ensure wide 360 -degree coverage. Moreover, it is equipped with an advanced interference management system (preamble puncturing) to minimize network congestion.
The router has one 10 Gbps WAN port and all devices have four 2.5 Gbps LAN ports. Unfortunately, a USB 3.0 port is missing, which means that links with, for example, a shared disk is not possible. Satellites can be connected wirelessly or via CAT6/7 cable, which results in a 2.5Gbps configuration.

Installation and functions
The installation is easy via the Orbi app and a QR code on the router. Satellites are configured in advance and are automatically linked. For multiple settings you can log in via a browser with “Routerlogin.net.” For a basic and advanced menu, where the latter is specifically intended for experienced users. Optional functions include a separate IoT and guest network. The Netgear Armor software is 30 days free and then available for a fee. Parental supervision is also a paid option.

Test results
In a standard single -family home, the Orbi 870 offers excellent coverage on all floors. With a wired backhaul, a speed of 2.5 Gbps is achieved, while the wireless connection is variable depending on the distance. Wireless speeds are around 1.8 Gbps within 5 meters from the device and fall to around 600 Mbps at 25 meters. This results in strong performance with broad coverage. The total energy consumption is approximately 36 watts per hour (3 units of 12 watts).

Conclusion
The Orbi 870 is a solid high-end Wi-Fi 7-router configuration with two satellites. With the new Wi-Fi 7 technology, the whole offers excellent performance, ideal for large homes. Although not everyone currently needs such advanced specifications, this set offers future -proofing. The high price and extra costs for software are disadvantages. Guarantee is one year, with free support limited to 90 days; Support was then paid.
