Never before has a vegan bought a Rolls-Royce!

If you can afford a Rolls-Royce, you’re darling rich. But apparently you’re not vegan then. Because according to the CEO of the British luxury manufacturer, a customer has never asked for a leather-free interior.

Volvo and subsidiary Polestar turn out to be the best boys in the class. The top speed of their cars must be reduced, because of safety. The diesel has been banned at both brands, because of the environment. And you won’t find an animal skin anymore in most Volvos and all Polestars.

What do you get in return? Faux leather – which in our opinion looks more like vinyl than leather – and material that consists of recycled plastic bottles and fishing nets. All vegan. No animal has died for the trim materials in Volvos and Polestars.

Rolls-Royce: ‘Nobody asked us for a vegan interior’

But Rolls-Royce doesn’t want to do it yet. “No one has ever asked us about a vegan interior,” CEO Torsten Müller-Ötvös told Autocar. He goes on to say that sustainability is “very important” to Rolls-Royce. Even though his brand only supplies V12 engines with the consumption of small oil tankers.

In any case, Müller-Ötvös does not want a leatherless interior, because sustainability should “not come at the expense of luxury”. And yet he calls Rolls-Royce “a leader in sustainable manufacturing”. If someone asks for a vegan interior, their company is ready, says Müller-Ötvös.
