New AirPods are coming – but you’ll have to wait a while

The AirPods are one of Apple’s most popular products, but they can be even better. Apple itself also thinks so, because according to rumors the company will release three new versions of the wireless earphones in 2024. Here they are.

New AirPods in 2024

First up: the AirPods 4. These follow – how could it be otherwise – the AirPods 3, which, according to Apple analyst Mark Gurman, sold a lot less well than hoped. That is why the earphones are getting a bigger makeover this time, with a completely new design that looks a bit like that of the AirPods Pro. They do not have silicone caps, but they do have another novelty: a variant with noise reduction. These earphones can therefore block ambient noise without being deep in your ear.

This luxurious version of the AirPods 4 also has a special charging case with a speaker in it, so you can easily find them with Find My. The cheaper version has to do without these extras. The AirPods 2 and 3 will disappear from stores when the AirPods 4 are launched, probably around September 2024.

AirPods Max 2: a refresh

The AirPods Max seem to be Apple’s forgotten baby. Apple’s luxury over-ear headphones have not received any improvements since their debut. That will change in 2024 with the long-awaited AirPods Max 2. Expect a USB-C connection, an improved H2 chip, Bluetooth 5.3 support and… new colors!

Fans of the AirPods Pro will have to wait a little longer. According to Gurman, these earphones will not be updated until 2025. They will probably also have a completely new design by then and built-in sensors for smart health functions.
