In the Apple Watch product line, the SE version is a cheaper entry-level model. In order to further reduce the price, Apple is said to have plans to provide the Apple Watch SE with a plastic casing.
This makes the Apple Watch lighter and reduces costs so that this model can be promoted more advantageously compared to the more expensive models. In addition, there is a clearer separation between the Series models and the SE.

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman says that Apple is currently working on a new version of the Apple Watch SE. According to him, Apple would like to adjust the casing for this model. Instead of aluminum, the Apple Watch SE will get a plastic casing. Apple would mainly want to do this to further reduce the price.
This is not new, Apple has tried this before with the iPhone 5C. This was also provided with a plastic casing in all kinds of bright colors. The iPhone did not really catch on, but perhaps plastic is a better choice for the Apple Watch SE.
