round plug
The new BMW M5 is loaded with electrical power. For the first time in the history of the 5-series, the M5 will have a plug-in hybrid powertrain. To make sure that the M5 has not become lighter as a result, it can also behave a bit sporty, BMW’s shows the sporty top version of the new 5-series on the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
BMW is working hard on a new generation of the 5-series. The new funfer will also receive an all-electric version in the form of the i5, a car that has to sink its teeth into the Mercedes-Benz EQE and the yet to be marketed Audi A6 e-tron. The rest of the 5-series range does not miss the electrification boat, of course. There will be mild-hybrid versions and plug-in hybrid flavors. BMW is obliged to its stand to also come up with a new M5. That too will be a plug-in hybrid! The new M5 can be seen in action at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife.
The 5-series in these photos betrays its true nature with, among other things, sportier-looking bumper work, the attached wheel arch edges and the four exhaust pipes that hang at the bottom of the buttocks. So a real M5. The Hybrid Test Vehicle stickers indicate that the new M5 is equipped with a plug-in hybrid powertrain. The flap behind which the charging point is located can already be seen in the left front screen.
It is certainly not inconceivable that the new M5 will simply get an eight-cylinder again. In the XM Concept, a preview of a new M-SUV, BMW already installed a plug-in hybrid powertrain in which the combustion engine was a V8. We aim for BMW to also spoon a similar powertrain into the M5. Count on a power of between 700 and 750 hp. Certainly not wrong, especially when you consider that the current M5 in its most powerful form kicks up to 635 hp. That extra power is, of course, more than welcome, given the higher weight as a result of the plug-in hybrid powertrain. We expect the new BMW 5 Series on the market next year. The M5 is probably planned for a year later.
