With 748 hp Label Red heart?
Mercedes-Benz and BMW are going to fight each other this year. Mercedes-Benz recently presented the new E-class and BMW is coming this year with a completely new 5-series. Of course, a fierce M5 appears again and it is precisely that new BMW M5 that can now be seen better than ever.
BMW will pull the curtain on the all-new 5 Series later this year. As usual, it comes in various types and flavors, but there will soon be more than ever. For example, there will be an i5 for the first time, a fully electric variant of the 5 series that will not only be available as a sedan, but also as an i5 Touring. In addition to an extensive range of mild hybrid and plug-in hybrid engines for both the 5-series sedan and Touring, there will of course be another sporty M5, but not in exactly the same way as you have been used to for several decades.
After all, the new BMW 5 Series will be a plug-in hybrid. These new photos show the new BMW M5 better than ever. The packed prototype is this time equipped with its final but still partly taped taillights. The four exhaust tailpipes at the bottom of the buttocks, the M-signature side mirror caps, the thick footwear and the applied bumper work reveal that we have the M version here. The tailgate of the plug-in part of the powertrain can be seen in the left front screen.

It is not yet officially known which powertrain the new BMW M5 will get exactly. The BMW XM – always a plug-in hybrid – has hardware on board that may find its way into the most powerful 5 Series. That SUV comes as a 475bhp 50e, but that powertrain seems too lenient for the new M5. The outgoing M5 already kicks it up to 600 hp, the Competition and CS go over that with successively 625 hp and 635 hp. It is quite possible that the M5 will get the 653 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain of the XM or even the 748 hp strong hardware of the XM Label Red. That means that the top-5 series will just get a V8 again. More later this year!
