After announcing the bike last week, KTM has now lifted the curtain on the 2022 890 DUKE R. If you had hoped that KTM would have made the ‘Super Scalpel’ even sharper, we will have to disappoint, the only new one for 2022 is the ‘Atlantic Blue’ livery.
Admittedly, they actually said it themselves last week during the announcement of the 2022 890 DUKE R that it had been visually overhauled, but secretly we had hoped for more than just a new ‘Atlantic Blue’ livery.
KTM tries to put it nicely in its press release by stating that the color Atlantic Blue should be reminiscent of the color palette of the RC16 MotoGP racer, but that is quite far fetched. If you ask us, it’s just the same livery as the 1290 Super Duke R.
This does not alter the fact that the 890 DUKE R in this Atlantic Blue color scheme is something to get through. According to the Austrians, the ‘Super Scalpel’ is the most extreme hypernaked in the mid-range and judging by its specifications, that is certainly no boast.
To sum that up for you: 121 hp peak power and 99 Nm of torque, an advanced electronics package with three driving modes (Rain, Street and Sport), four if you’ve added the optional Track driving mode, nine-stage adjustable traction control, anti –wheelie and the additional throttle response setting.
Then the bicycle part: fully adjustable WP APEX suspension at the front and rear, double 320 mm discs at the front with Brembo Stylema brake calipers and a Brembo MCS brake pump and Bosch cornering ABS.
The only downside is that quite a lot of flaps have to be sold over the counter. The 890 DUKE R is available from € 14,900 (€ 12,699 BE) and that is quite a steep price for a middle class Naked.
