From five to six options
Tesla is introducing a new paint color for the Model S and Model X. ‘Lunar Silver’ is an addition to the existing range for both models, which consists of a total of six different colors.
The latter is somewhat interesting, because Tesla has only offered five different color options for its models in recent years. Although colors were sometimes added to the Model 3 and Model Y, they were always replacements for existing shades. For example, the Model Y’s ‘Quicksilver’ replaces the previous ‘Midnight Silver Metallic’. This is different for the Model S and Model In the early years of the Model S, Tesla offered more than five colors, but in order to streamline the offering, the number of options was significantly reduced in the years that followed.
‘Lunar Silver’ is, as the name suggests, a light shade of silver. Tesla also now knows how to charge a lot of money for the paint color. With both the Model S and the Model White is and remains free, for black or blue you pay an extra €1,600.
Lunar Silver is currently reserved for the two larger models and is therefore not available on the Model 3 and Model Y. Tesla makes the available colors partly depend on the factory where the cars are built. For example, the aforementioned Quicksilver, like Cherry Red, is exclusive to Model Ys built in Berlin, while Ultra Red and Stealth Gray are not used in the German factory.
There will be no changes to the prices of the Tesla Model S and Tesla Model X themselves this time, so the prices previously published on this site still apply.
