Who would have thought that

It’s the weekend, but you can feel free to fill your brain even further with interesting facts on AutoWeek.nl. With this you can make yourself feel good at the breakfast table or in the evening in the pub. Today we have a striking fact about the new Dacia Duster.
The brand new Dacia Duster is newer than ever. While the second generation built on the platform of the Duster, which has been for sale in the Netherlands since 2010, the new one is on a new platform. This time, every piece of sheet metal is new. From the doors to the hood, from the tailgate to the front screens and even the complete windows are different from those of the previous model. Although, is everything new? Maybe less new than you think!

The new Duster contains an interesting link to the past. Even before Dacia pulled the curtain on the first Duster in December 2009 – we forget the Aro 10 called Dacia Duster in England – the Romanians were already looking ahead to an SUV-like version of the brand with a study model called Duster Concept. The eventual first Duster looked nothing like that show car. Not a single design element was left intact during the transition to the production model. Probably no one would have thought that this would change almost 15 years later, but it has!
The brand new Dacia Duster.
Take a good look at the rear light of the rather eccentric Dacia Duster Concept, which will be no less than fifteen years old in March 2024. Indeed: you can already see the Y-shape that the brand has recently started using in more and more places in its new models. You see this shape a lot, especially in the new Dacia Duster. Not only in the interior and in the lighting in the front, but especially in the rear lights. These are clearly derivatives of the ones that Dacia used almost 15 years ago.
Now that we have brought the Duster Concept from 2009 back onto the digital stage after years, we can explain it again. The Duster Concept was 4.25 meters long and was a handful of centimeters shorter than the actual Duster would be. Unlike the model you have known for years, the Duster Concept was a three-door. Earlier than the Hyundai Veloster, the Duster Concept had one door on the driver’s side, but two on the passenger’s side. Under the hood was – in theory – a 1.5 dCi, as it later found a place in the Duster. The modular interior was striking. This way you could – yes – slide the passenger seat under the driver’s seat without folding it. The seats of the rear seats could be folded up and down. Useful! Of such gimmicks none of them made it to the production stage.
Will you be the absolute center of the next circle birthday with this new knowledge? We very much hope so, but we fear not. That is also AutoWeek.
