New electric Lancia Ypsilon: ready for 2024

2024 will be the year of the brand new Ypsilon at Lancia. The new Lancia Ypsilon will be the first of a series of new models with which Lancia will once again spread its wings outside the Italian home market. The Italians show a first glimpse of the new Ypsilon.

Lancia has only been active in its home country Italy for several years. It still sells the Ypsilon, which was withdrawn from the Dutch market in 2017, a car that basically dates from 2011 and will therefore be thirteen years old next year. The Ypsilon will no longer add a fourteenth year to its career, as 2024 will be the year in which Lancia will launch a completely new Ypsilon and it is that car that the first fragments of it can now be seen.

Car brand Lancia has existed for exactly 117 years today and the brand has chosen its birthday to release the first images of the new Ypsilon. And not just any version of the new Lancia Ypsilon, but a special introductory version that is fully called Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina. This is a limited variant of which the edition in which it appears refers to the year of Lancia’s birth: 1906. Only 1,906 copies will be available. The Lancia Ypsilon Edizione Limitata Cassina only comes with an electric drivetrain, while the Ypsilon itself also seems to be available with combustion engines. For the special version, Lancia has joined forces with the Italian Cassina, an Italian manufacturer of ‘designer furniture.’

Lancia Pu+Ra HPE

The Lancia Pu+Ra HPE Concept gives a glimpse of Lancia’s new design language.

Lancia releases plates on which its CEO Luca Napolitano and Cassina CEO Luca Fuso scribble under an undoubtedly important document and shake hands. More interesting is the new Lancia Ypsilon under the canvas that is in the background on those plates. However, we do not see much of the car, although our attention is focused on the striking triangle that apparently forms part of the buttocks. In addition, Lancia gives us a look at a ‘table’ that is apparently housed at the bottom of the center console. According to Lancai, this table should give you the feeling “[…] to be at home, no matter where you are.”

Lancia promises to release more information about the new Ypsilon in the coming weeks. The unveiling of the first new Lancia in years is scheduled for February. We know, among other things, that the Ypsilon, like other future new Lancias, will receive design influences from the Pu+Ra HPE Concept and that a sporty 240 hp HF version is planned for 2025. In 2026, Lancia will launch a 4.7 meter long electric liftback that will be called Gamma. In 2028, the brand will return to the C-segment with a new and electric Delta. Every new Lancia introduced from 2026 onwards will be an EV. This indicates that the Ypsilon, which will be released next year, will not only be supplied with electric powertrains.
