New evidence for Apple Silicon M2 chip spotted

The first major upgrade of the Apple Silicon chips for the Macs now seems to be really coming. There is new evidence for a powerful M2 chip. Read in this article where and when we will see them.

New Evidence for Apple Silicon’s M2 Chip

Renowned leaker Mark Gurman, who we don’t often catch on misinformation, has obtained new evidence from his sources about Apple’s new Silicon chip. Through a developer of the Cupertino tech company, we know that Apple is testing a processor in the new MacBook Air and in a redesigned 13-inch MacBook Pro.

Specifications of the M2 chip

Bloomberg tech journalist Gurman reports in his newsletter that the developer is talking about a chip with an 8-core CPU (with four chips for efficiency and four for the powerful computations) and a 10-core GPU (for extremely good and smooth graphics)† These specifications have already been mentioned at a leak of the M2 chip.

According to the source, the devices, in which the M2 chip has been spotted, ran on macOS 12.3, which should be available for all Macs next week. macOS 12.4 has also been discussed. Gurman concludes that the M2 chip has also been tested on macOS 13. We will most likely see this software version at WWDC in June of this year.

Apple’s Silicon continues with the M2 chip

The M2 chip is the first upgrade after the M1 chip, which we find in the latest MacBooks and iMacs. The Apple M1 chip is a so-called System-on-a-Chip (SoC). That means that one chip does all the math. In 2020, Apple released the first Mac models with this Apple Silicon chip. The M1 is the first in the series. These Apple Silicon chips are specially made for macOS and therefore work faster and more efficiently. This also makes them a lot more energy efficient.

The M1 chip has had minor upgrades (M1 Pro and M1 Max), but has not yet seen an official successor. The M1 Pro and the M1 Max are probably still in the new Mac mini. We’ll see this (hopefully) on March 8 at the Apple event.

Apple’s ‘Peak Performance’ Event on March 8

Although we don’t see the M2 chip appearing at the upcoming Apple event yet, there are probably other new interesting devices on the market. For example, we expect an iPhone SE 2022 with an improved chip and 5G support. We also hope a new iPad Air with, among other things, the A15 chip and Center Stage. We have many more expectations from the Apple event.

Apple’s spring event can be followed live on Tuesday, March 8 at 7:00 PM via a live stream on the YouTube channel or their website. Of course we also report on the evening. Keep an eye on the iPhoned website so you don’t miss anything! This can also be reached via our app†
