To use the zoom in a YouTube video, you must first turn on the function. When you use the app on your iPhone and are logged in with your account, the app already tells you that a new function is available. Did you miss this notification or do you not see it? Then follow the steps below.

  • Launch the YouTube app on your iPhone and tap your profile picture at the top right;
  • Tap ‘Settings > Try New Features’;
  • Scroll down slightly to ‘Pinch to zoom’;
  • Tap the blue ‘try it out’ button.

The function is now enabled. To use the feature, start a video and turn your iPhone into landscape (width) mode to view the video in full screen. Then, just like with a photo, you can zoom in and out by ‘pinching’ or ‘spreading’ with two fingers. By the way, zooming doesn’t work with YouTube Shorts, the short TikTok-like videos.
