What new features can we expect from iOS 27 next year? The first rumors have already appeared and this is what we know so far.
New features of iOS 27
According to the first rumors about iOS 27, we can mainly expect improvements in stability and bug fixes, with a number of major new features for Apple Intelligence. This is everything that is known for now about next year’s big update.
Stability and bug fixes
Bloomberg reports that Apple will mainly focus on quality and underlying performance with iOS 27. This comes after several years of major iOS updates, including the launch of Apple Intelligence with iOS 18 and the major Liquid Glass design with iOS 26.
Mark Gurman says Apple engineers scour Apple’s operating systems for unnecessary elements that can be removed and bugs that need to be fixed. The goal is to significantly improve performance and overall quality. In this way, Apple wants to lay the foundation for a new wave of major updates in the future with iOS 27.
Features for the iPhone Fold
One aspect of iOS 27 is optimizing the software platform for the first foldable iPhone, which will be released in September 2026. This iPhone Fold has an inner screen of approximately 7.8 inches and an outer screen of 5.5 inches. Apple will need to make changes in iOS 27 to accommodate this new design. Also, new features need to be added to take advantage of the larger screen.
Bloomberg says Apple will prioritize software features specifically tailored to this new design. Nothing else is known yet about what new features Apple is adding to iOS 27 for the iPhone Fold.
Apple Intelligence
Finally, iOS 27 also gets new features for Apple Intelligence. Apple is reportedly working on a new AI platform for the Health app. According to Bloomberg Apple wants to ’emulate’ a real doctor using an AI agent that uses data from the Health app on your iPhone.
The idea is that the Health app already has a wealth of personal data, especially if you wear an Apple Watch. With this new AI platform, Apple hopes to give users more insight into what all those statistics mean. The updated Health app is also likely to get videos explaining health trends to users.
When can you expect iOS 27?
Apple announces iOS 27 during WWDC in June. This usually takes place in the first or second week of June. The update will be announced at the event and then released in developer beta testing. Here’s when Apple has held WWDC over the last five years:
- 2021: June 7-11
- 2022: June 6-10
- 2023: June 5-9
- 2024: June 10-14
- 2025: June 9-13
A public beta of iOS 27 will follow in July 2026, so iPhone users can try out new features and provide feedback to Apple. If all goes according to plan, iOS 27 will be released to the general public in September. Below are the release dates for major iOS updates over the past five years:
