We can safely call the Volkswagen Transporter an icon among buyers, but that does not mean that everything always remains the same. The new one follows in the footsteps of another delivery icon, its great opponent Ford Transit.
About half of the Netherlands was built from the Volkswagen Transporter and the Ford Transit and for decades the two were diametrically opposed to each other. This decade everything will be different, because Volkswagen and Ford are now joining forces for their most successful vans. For the first time in its history, the new Volkswagen Transporter is not designed from the ground up by Volkswagen. No, the Transporter ‘T7’ is essentially a Ford Transit Custom with a Volkswagen look.
What does that look like? Well, the new Ford Transit Custom already gives a little bit of an idea, but it became even clearer thanks to photos from Volkswagen itself showing the new Transporter in a busy color scheme. Now our spy photographer also has images of the real thing. This shows once again that the new Transporter differs from its Ford example, especially at the front. At the rear it looks more Transit-like, with the narrow and high taillights. The Transit has had such lights for generations, while the Transporter always had more compact, square rear lights. So a well-known Transporter element is lost here, you could say.
Volkswagen Transporter
The new Volkswagen Transporter has not only been spotted in its panel van form, but also as a pick-up with a double cabin. One of the many configurations in which the Transporter will be available. Secretly, a lot is already known about the Transporter. In addition to photos of the beautifully decorated exterior, Volkswagen also shared all the necessary technical information and two (slightly dark) photos of the interior.
