Honda has refreshed the color palette of the CRF1000L Africa Twin as well as the CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports for 2023. The Mat Ballistic Black Metallic color has been updated, as well as the new Glint Wave Blue Metallic Tricolor for the Africa Twin and Mat Iridium Gray Metallic for the Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
The CRF1000L Africa Twin and CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports have both received new fresh colors for model year 2023, so that you now have a choice of 3 for the Africa Twin and 2 different color combinations for the Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
In addition to the iconic Grand Prix Red, in which the bike is already available this year, the 2023 version of the Africa Twin will also be available in Matt Ballistic Black Metallic, now complete with an all-black frame, and a new Glint Wave Blue Metallic Tricolor with blue nose, blue front fender, white frame and red subframe.
The CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports – which accounted for 56% of total Africa Twin sales in 2021 and Europe – will be available in 2023 in two distinctive colors. The timeless Pearl Glare White Tricolour, complete with golden wheels, has remained, and the new color is Matt Iridium Gray Metallic, gray with black accents.
As before, both models will be available with manual or Dual Clutch Transmission. Since the introduction of the semi-automatic transmission in 2009 on the VRF1200, Honda has sold more than 200,000 DCT engines in Europe.
In 2021, the DCT version accounted for just over half of the CRF1000L’s sales, 51% to be exact. The demand for DCT is higher for Adventure Sports than for the regular Africa Twin, 61% versus 41%, but we get that.
As a travel motorcycle pur sang, DCT fits in seamlessly with the character of the Adventure Sports, that is what the trip by bike from Marbella home had taught us, while the regular Africa Twin has a more adventurous look and who occasionally goes off the beaten track want to give way does that rather with a manual gearbox than with DCT.
It is not yet known how much the 2023 CRF1000L Africa Twin and CRF1000L Africa Twin Adventure Sports will cost and when they will be available.
