Hyundai Santa Fe

You have already had some time to get used to the striking appearance of the brand new Hyundai Santa Fe. Now it is also known what exactly happens under that carriage, how big it is and when the Santa Fe will come this way.

We can safely say that the new Hyundai Santa Fe caused quite a surprise when it was unveiled last month. After all, it looks almost nothing like the outgoing Santa Fe anymore and looks quite extravagant, especially at the rear. The Santa Fe also takes a somewhat different course in the interior from this fifth generation. It’s straight lines that beat the clock, while the current Santa Fe, which was thoroughly renovated in 2020, was characterized by round shapes and a pretty frivolous lined front. All well and good, but what does the metamorphosis yield?

Well, for starters, the new Santa Fe is a bit bigger. The wheelbase grew by 5 cm to over 2.81 m and the total length increased by 4.5 cm to 4.83 m. This is clearly noticeable in the interior space. The new Hyundai Santa Fe offers five-seater space for 725 liters of luggage, 91 liters more than before. Legroom in the second row of seats in the hybrid Santa Fe has increased by 2 cm and in the third row by 3 cm. You can also tilt the backrests on the third row of seats 10 degrees further back, which is very comfortable. The Santa Fe has not only grown a bit, but also gained weight. The curb weight is always above 2 tons. The hybrid and plug-in hybrid versions weigh 2,225 kg and 2,295 kg respectively.

Known technique

We don’t call it hybrids for nothing, of course, because those are the ones coming to Europe. The new Santa Fe with atmospheric 2.5 and the 2.5 T-GDI pass us by. Just like with the current Santa Fe, we again get the choice of a hybrid and plug-in hybrid with 1.6 T-GDI as the beating heart. The system power of those two is not yet known, but we now know that the 1.6 delivers 180 hp in the HEV and 160 hp in the PHEV. That sounds familiar, so carefully count on comparable system powers as with the current Santa Fe (HEV 230 hp, PHEV 265 hp). The 0-100 km/h sprint is completed in 9.5 seconds in the hybrid Santa Fe and in 9.1 seconds in the plug-in. In both cases, the top speed is 190 km/h. Switching is always done with a six-speed automatic transmission. It is not yet clear what the electric range of the new plug-in hybrid Santa Fe is.

As you can see, we have become a little wiser, but some questions remain unanswered. The European market introduction will not take place until the first half of 2024. Before then, the new Hyundai Santa Fe will undoubtedly be reviewed again.
