New iPad Pro gets M4 chip and Pencil with haptic feedback

According to Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, Apple will announce an iPad Pro with M4 chip and a Pencil with haptic feedback during the ‘Let Loose’ event on May 7. You need to know this.

New iPad Pro gets an M4 chip

Gurman says in his latest newsletter that he now considers it very likely that the upcoming iPad Pro models will have a new generation M4 chip instead of the M3 chip, which only appeared for the first time six months ago in the MacBook Pro and iMac.

An important new feature of the M4 chip is an improved Neural Engine, which ensures better performance of AI tasks. Gurman thinks that Apple will present the next iPad Pro as an AI device, making the M4 chip indeed quite an obvious choice.

In addition to an iPad Pro with M4, Gurman assumes that a new Apple Pencil will be announced at the event. He thinks that this Apple Pencil 3 will be equipped with haptic feedback for the first time.

Gurman doesn’t provide any details on how this will work, but the Apple Pencil 3 may get a small Taptic Engine that vibrates when switching between drawing tools. And also, for example, when using the new squeeze function in iPadOS 17.5.

12.9 inch iPad Air and a new Magic Keyboard

In addition to an iPad Pro with M4 and a new Apple Pencil, Gurman also confirms that Apple will introduce the very first 12.9-inch version of the iPad Air and a new Magic Keyboard for iPads during the ‘Let loose’ event.

The Apple event will take place on May 7 at 4:00 PM Dutch time. Keep an eye on our website for the latest news about the event. You can also read here where you can watch the Apple event live.
