The immensely popular Kia Niro in the Netherlands will receive a successor. There will of course also be an electric version. We can show you that new Kia e-Niro from all angles.
Kia has a wide range of new electric models in the barrel. Some of those newcomers will be on the E-GMP platform specifically intended for EVs, which is below the EV6 and the already announced EV9. In addition, Kia brings electric versions of cars that are also supplied with combustion engines. One of these is the Niro, a crossover that, in addition to being a Hybrid and Plug-in Hybrid, is also available as an e-Niro.
The new electric e-Niro is clearly visible for the first time in these brand new spy photos. In terms of design, the youngest Niro is clearly inspired by the Habaniro Concept that shone in New York in 2019. Like that show car, the new Niro also seems to get a contrasting color C-pillar. That is by no means the only striking design element. The stubborn lighting with the strikingly lined LED daytime running lights also seems to survive the switch to the new Niro. The horizontally oriented rear lights of the current model make way for vertically placed ones. Indeed, just like on the Habaniro Concept. In addition, the license plate is moving up a floor behind, it will soon no longer be in the bumper but in the tailgate.
As far as technology is concerned, we are still somewhat in the dark. We expect that the new e-Niro will mainly benefit from faster loading times. After all, the current model can quickly charge up to 77 kW (in combination with a 64 kWh battery).
The current generation Niro made its debut in 2016 as a Hybrid and as a Plug-in Hybrid, and was given a fully electric version in the form of the e-Niro in 2018. In the Netherlands, Kia is doing very good business with the e-Niro. Thanks in part to the e-Niro, the Kia was the best-selling car in the Netherlands in 2020, and the Niro is also in the lead in the first ten months of this year. The e-Niro is also doing more than excellent in Europe, for example, the electric crossover was in sixth place in the top 10 of best-selling electric cars in September.
