The current MacBook Air dates from November 2020, and its successor is still a while away. According to a reliable Apple analyst, the MacBook Air launch has been delayed until the second half of 2022.
MacBook Air 2022: when is the launch?
In his latest “Power On” newsletter, Gurman reports that Apple originally planned to launch the new MacBook Air in late 2021 or early 2022. According to the analyst, it has ‘a completely new design, MagSafe, the M2 chip and more’. Now Apple is aiming for a launch in the second half of 2022.
Ming-Chi Kuo — another reliable Apple insider — expects mass production of the new MacBook Air to begin in late Q2 or early Q3. This suggests that the Air will be launched in September at the earliest.
September is usually dominated by the new iPhone and Apple Watch. A month later, Apple often comes up with a new Apple event that puts new Macs in the spotlight. So we expect the MacBook Air 2022 to be announced in October. In the same week, the entry-level MacBook is probably still available for pre-order.
14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro
Gurman also has news about the new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro. The current models were launched in October 2021, and the Apple insider doesn’t expect Apple to update the Macs in 2022. They are expected to appear in 2023 and will be enhanced by an M2 Pro and M2 Max chip.
This year’s only MacBook Pro update is likely to be a redesigned entry-level MacBook Pro, Gurman writes. It would be a MacBook Pro with 13-inch display and M2 chip. We expect Apple to launch it at the same time as the MacBook Air. Apple may then present more new devices with an M2, such as a Mac mini, 24-inch iMac and iPad Pro.
