Next year Apple will be all about the Mac! The company has no fewer than five new Macs planned for 222. You need to know this.
Five New Macs in 2022
Bloomberg’s usually knowledgable Mark Gurman lists all the Macs Apple plans to launch in 2022 in his newsletter. If all of Gurman’s info turns out to be true, then 2022 will be a hugely important year for the Mac. No fewer than five new Macs are planned. We list them below.
- A high-end iMac with Apple Silicon chip that sits above the 24-inch iMac.
- A completely redesigned MacBook Air with an M2 chip.
- A redesigned Mac mini.
- A new version of the entry-level MacBook Pro.
- A new Mac Pro with Apple Silicon chip.
Notable MacBook Pro
We have heard rumors about most models before. It was already fairly clear that there would be a new iMac, MacBook Air, Mac mini and Mac Pro, but the new entry-level MacBook Pro is a remarkable one.
After the launch of the completely redesigned 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro in October 2021, it actually looked like the entry-level 13-inch MacBook Pro would die a quiet death. But not so, because apparently there is an update coming.
At the moment, however, the details are still scarce. Because will that entry-level MacBook Pro keep its old design (with Touch Bar)? Will it also get an M2 processor like the MacBook Air? And if so, how does it compare to the probably cheaper MacBook Air at all? In short, there seems to be a new cheaper MacBook Pro, but what it will look like exactly is not yet known.
The rest of the Macs of 2022
A little more is known about the other Macs of 2022. We’ll start with the iMac. It will reportedly get a larger screen than the current 24-inch iMac. But whether that will be a 27-, 30- or 32-inch screen, it is not yet known. It is likely that he will take over the design of the 24-inch iMac and get a faster Apple Silicon chip.
The MacBook Air will get a completely new design, probably in the same colors that we already know from the iMac 24-inch. For the first time since 2009, we also get a MacBook with white keys instead of black keys.
With the Mac Pro it is already clear that it will get a much faster Apple Silicon chip, because Apple itself has promised that by 2022 all Macs with an M processor will be available. We think the Mac Pro is an excellent opportunity for an M2 Max or something similar. The design of the Mac Pro, on the other hand, is unclear. The current design isn’t very old or outdated, but you probably don’t need a huge computer case for Apple Silicon-Mac Pro.
Finally, the Mac mini. Here we expect a modest update with only a new processor. Perhaps the same M2 chip is used here that will be in the MacBook Air of 2022. It may become a bit thinner.
