Mini will pull the curtain from the Cooper in September this year, the car that will replace current hatchback models. It comes as a three-door and a five-door and the variant with the smallest number of doors will be available with electric powertrains and with petrol engines. That includes a potent Cooper S!

The new Mini Cooper that will replace the three and five door hatchbacks is – just like the Countryman – a poorly kept secret. We were able to show you the electric three-door in April and not much later Mini released the first photos of the three-door Cooper with an electric powertrain. Where the new five-door version will only be available with combustion engines – after all, the electric Aceman will follow later as an EV alternative – the three-door version will be available with both petrol engines and electric powertrains. We have already been able to drive the 184 hp Cooper E and the 218 hp Cooper SE. On these spy plates we see the petrol equivalent of the second: the new Mini Cooper S.

The Mini Cooper S in these photos, of course, betrays the presence of a combustion engine with its exhaust pipe visible at the bottom of the rear. The current Cooper S has two exhaust tailpipes centrally at the bottom of the rear. There also seems to be relatively serious braking behind the wheels. The current Mini Cooper S has a 178 hp 2.0 four-cylinder. For more power, Mini currently has the 231 hp JCW version ready. We also expect such a sporty top version from the new Mini Cooper.
