New overview makes iCloud storage more transparent

In iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, Apple has given the iCloud portion of the Apple Account a new look. In addition to the new design, data about your iCloud storage usage is also displayed more clearly and concisely.

This makes it even easier to check how much storage space you use in iCloud and which apps are responsible for it. In addition, you can immediately check how many items are present in different apps such as Photos, Files, Passwords and more.

View updated iCloud settings

  • Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad
  • Go to ‘Apple Account’ (formerly Apple ID)
  • Tap on ‘iCloud’

On a Mac running macOS Sequoia or later, you can find the new iCloud view via  ▸ System Settings ▸ Apple Account ▸ iCloud.

New overview makes iCloud storage more transparent

The first thing you’ll notice is that when you’re subscribed to ‌iCloud, the text “Subscriber Edition” appears around the iCloud logo in the top right of your screen.

The new iCloud view has largely the same functionality as in previous versions, but looks a lot clearer. In particular, the ‘Storage’ overview makes it clearer how iCloud storage is used and places the largest consumers at the top of the overview.

Check storage space and data

In previous versions of the software, you could only see whether iCloud was enabled for a particular app, but starting with iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and macOS Sequoia, you can see at a glance how much storage an app like Mail and Messages is using. You can also see how many photos, notes, and passwords are stored in iCloud.

The different sections within the overview give you details and additional tools for managing your storage, most of which were also available in previous versions of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS.

Recommendations

The ‘Recommended for You’ option will show you recommendations regarding your iCloud subscription. These relate to various features within iCloud and recommendations such as deleting inactive backups and more.
