The British police and fire brigade are getting a hefty load of new Peugeots. A new deal has been signed between the emergency services and the French manufacturer for the delivery of a total of 1,500 cars.
Brexit apparently does not throw a spanner in the works, because a new deal has been struck between the government of the United Kingdom and the French Peugeot for the supply of police and fire engines. In total, vehicles are delivered by Peugeot to 38 different stations. Almost the entire model range of the brand finds its way to the emergency services. It means an extension of the deal between Peugeot and the British government that has existed since 2015. In total, 5,000 Peugeots have been delivered since then.
This year, 611 of the 1,500 cars have already been delivered. Police or fire service stripes appear in all shapes and sizes. The (e-) 208, 308, 508, 3008, 5008, Partner, Expert and Boxer are all present. The 208s will probably mainly be used in urban areas and the 308, 3008 and 5008 are intended for medium distances. The 508 is probably the new (mostly secret) surveillance car that also has to chase speed demons on the highways. The Partner, Expert and Boxer are of course especially suitable as arrest vans or for supporting tasks.
Vauxhall
In the past, the police and fire services in the United Kingdom often used cars from the originally British Vauxhall, which is now of course a sister brand of Peugeot. After all, those cars often rolled off the production line on the island itself. With that brand now under PSA, Vauxhall might be a more logical choice than Peugeot. In the end, the money ends up at the same group, but there is still a somewhat more British touch to the cars. It is not known whether this may change in the future or whether Peugeot will keep this deal for the time being.
