Renault is working on a new compact crossover, a high-legged model that goes by the name Kiger. He is ready to sink his teeth into the international car market and Renault is already showing a shadowy picture of the definitive car.
Let’s go back to November 2020, the month in which Renault presented the Kiger Concept (photos 2 and 3) to the world. The Kiger Concept was a fairly production-ready-looking concept car for which concrete production plans are on the table. Renault immediately indicated that a production version derived from the Kiger Concept would be on the market in India this year. It can now be seen for the first time on a shadowy teaser record.
The Kiger will be a crossover with a length of almost four meters. That is not without reason, in India the road tax for cars shorter than four meters is more favorable than for larger models. The teaser plate confirms that the production version remains faithful to last year’s concept car in terms of design. The Kiger gets design influences from both the Kwid and the Captur known here.

The Kiger, like its smaller brother Kwid, stands on the modular CMF-A platform of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi alliance, a basis that Renault also uses in India for a compact MPV: the Triber. In Europe we will soon also be introduced to that platform, although it concerns a modified variant on which the electric Spring has been placed. Just like the Kwid and Triber, the Kiger will probably have a 72 hp and 96 Nm strong 1.0 three-cylinder petrol engine. We are not aiming for Renault to bring the Kiger to the Netherlands, although the manufacturer does say that the car will eventually also be sold outside the Indian borders. The Kiger will make its public debut later this month. In the form of the Nissan Magnite, the Triber in India already has a technical brother.
