Suzuki shows a first glimpse of an all-new city car. Indeed, we are talking about the brand new Celerio. Unfortunately we have to disappoint Dutch Suzuki fans, Suzuki’s new city car is not coming to Europe.
The segment of the compact city car is rapidly thinning. Peugeot and Citroën have given up on the smallest class after the 108 and C1 have been dropped, and the Volkswagen Group also does not seem to be continuing the Up triplets. Toyota is still coming with a new Aygo and Kia and Hyundai also don’t seem to want to leave the Picanto segment behind. Suzuki cut the Celerio from the European range two years ago, but the Indian-built hatchback is still for sale elsewhere in the world. There will even be a completely new Celerio, a car that Suzuki is now releasing a first image of.

Suzuki Celerio (patent)
The new Celerio will be the most fuel-efficient petrol-powered car on the Indian market, according to Suzuki. Does the appearance of the small five-door seem somewhat familiar to you? That may well be true. Earlier this year, AutoWeek was able to show an extensive series of patent plates of this new Suzuki that we already thought was the new Celerio. Suzuki is now confirming that name.
In terms of design, Suzuki is taking a different tack with the new Celerio. The cheaper and more down-to-earth brother of the Ignis has a much rounder design than the outgoing model and, in terms of design, fits better with cars such as the Baleno, which also disappeared in Europe. The new Celerio probably uses the Heartect platform, the basis that Suzuki already applies under the Swift, Ignis and the Wagon R+. Suzuki Netherlands previously indicated that it does not want to make any statements about (possible) future products, but it seems unlikely that Suzuki will return the Celerio to Europe.
