With Mirai technology

The Toyota Crown is no longer what it was for years. From now on, the Crown is no longer just a sedan, but an extensive model family with four body variants. Two of these have already been presented and a third is now being added. This is the Toyota Crown Sedan. He also likes hydrogen!
A lot is changing in Toyota land. In addition to being a luxurious top limousine, the top model Century is now also a top SUV packed with pampering in which you mainly need to be driven around. One step lower on Toyota’s status ladder has always been the Crown. The Crown was always a sedan for no less than 15 generations, but that sacred house has also been destroyed. Toyota presented the new Crown family in mid-2022. This consists of the Crown Crossover, the Crown Sport, Crown Sedan and Crown Estate. The Crown Sport is already known and recently the Japanese also pulled the curtain on the Crown Crossover. Today we are introduced to the third and penultimate: the Toyota Crown Sedan. You don’t have to expect the luxurious couple in the Netherlands.

Toyota Crown Sedan
The Toyota Crown Sedan is perhaps the most traditional of the Crown family, but despite its name, it does not have a traditional sedan butt. Yes, it has a tailgate where the rear window does not go up, but with its roofline that flows smoothly into the rear window and short tailgate, the Crown Sedan is a so-called fastback. From a distance, the Crown Sedan looks quite similar to the Crown Crossover, but they are very different from each other. For example, the complete window section of the Crown Sedan is different and the Crown Sedan not only has a different front and rear, but also a different shoulder line. While the shoulder line of the Crown Crossover slopes upward from the rear door, the Crown Sedan’s shoulder line is completely straight. The new four-door variant of the Toyota Crown is 5.03 meters long, making it even 10 centimeters longer than the Crown Crossover. It is also 7 centimeters lower. Completely different body variants.

Hydrogen
While the Toyota Crown Crossover in Japan is currently only available with a hybrid drivetrain, the Toyota Crown Sedan will be available with a more varied range of engines. There will be not only a hybrid variant, but also an electrically powered version with a fuel cell. The Toyota Crown Sedan FCEV will have the hardware of the hydrogen Toyota on board. Then of course we are talking about the Mirai. The Crown Sedan FCEV will have three hydrogen tanks in the bottom, which together can store enough hydrogen for an electric range of 820 kilometers. It has 182 hp and 300 Nm of torque. The hydrogen Crown must not only be able to charge other devices – just like the Hybrid – but must also be able to serve as energy storage for your home. The Crown Sedan Hybrid will have a 2.5 engine and should be able to reach a speed of 140 km/h on electric power.

Toyota Crown Sedan: a calm-looking interior packed with pampering.
Toyota has already opened the order books for both versions of the Crown Sedan. The Toyota Crown Sedan FCEV will cost around €52,000 in Japan. The hybrid version is available with a starting price of just under €46,000. Both the Crown Hybrid and the Crown FCEV weigh at least 2,000 kilos.
