Abarth will come next year with a sportier own version of the electric Fiat 500E. Autocar reports this through Abarth CEO Olivier François. However, the development of the electric Abarth 500E is quite difficult.
Abarth tells Autocar that it is currently working on a sporty variant of the electric Fiat 500E. CEO Olivier François indicates that the development of an Abarth version of the 500E is less simple than he initially thought. “A year and a half ago I said it couldn’t be difficult to turn the 500E into an Abarth. The bad news: it’s harder than I thought. When you have the power and torque you want, the powertrain is not the same anymore That means you have to adjust almost everything, from the transmission to the brakes,” says François. According to the CEO, the Abarth 500E – which “[…] relatively fast” – also sound special. The car could drive around both with and without sound.
Abarth supplies its own versions of the regular Fiat 500, the non-electric member of the 500 family, in the form of the 595 and 695. We are aiming for the Abarth 500E – which can also be given another name just like that – next to the existing Abarths.
