If there’s an Android phone that comes close to the iPhone, it’s the Google Pixel. The next model is said to be foldable – will Apple follow with the iPhone 15?
Foldable Google Pixel as an iPhone 15 competitor
The iPhone 15 won’t be released for another year, so we’re pitching iPhoned around this time always like to have a look at the competitors. And one of Apple’s biggest opponents is of course Google with its Pixel phones. These have recently become available officially in the Netherlands available.
If you want an Android experience that’s close to the iPhone in philosophy, Google is the place to be. Its own processor, perfectly matched hardware and long software support. So what does the search giant have to offer for next year? A foldable Google Pixel Fold is coming, according to recent leaks. We’ll talk to you about it.
Google Pixel Fold renders leaked
Apple’s well-known OnLeaks (see tweet below) announces that a Google Pixel Fold is planned for May next year. It has two screens – one 5.79 inch on the outside and a folding 7.69 inch on the inside. OnLeaks also shared a number of riders who show what this Google Pixel Fold will look like.
The most striking – next to the screen – is perhaps the camera island on the back. That offers space for three cameras, but they are placed horizontally next to each other. This gives you a huge camera bump at the back, but it is all nice and symmetrical.
Other fun facts about the Google Pixel Fold are the on/off button with fingerprint sensor (like on the iPad Air and iPad mini) and the huge amount of RAM of 12 GB (the iPhone 14 has 6 GB).
When will the iPhone follow?
Now that even Google is starting on the foldable phones, shouldn’t Apple follow soon? However, according to Ming-Chi Kuo’s latest predictions, a foldable iPhone-iPad hybrid will not be released until 2025 at the earliest.
However, we think differently. There is also the rumor that Apple plans to release an iPhone 15 Ultra next year. It should replace the iPhone 15 Pro Max. But what if the iPhone 15 Ultra is not a replacement but an extension of the iPhone 15 series? An even more expensive model, with an even larger screen and even more special functions. And what is the best way to make the screen bigger? Right, you make it foldable.
Apple could gain experience
The first foldable phone from a major brand was Samsung’s Galaxy Fold from 2019. It was plagued by hardware problems, and subsequent phones also had some teething problems. Apple could quietly watch from the sidelines the whole time, and you can bet that there are all kinds of foldable phones for analysis at Apple in a basement.
Perhaps Apple will surprise us next year with a foldable iPhone 15 Ultra. Two years before the predicted release. We just see it happen.
