Maybe soon there will be less tears at the pump

Oil prices are falling, petrol prices at the pump may soon also fall

Oil prices are falling, but so far you hardly notice it at the pump. Yet there is good news: it is quite possible that petrol and diesel prices will soon also fall.

Crude oil prices have fallen to their lowest since mid-March. Yet you still pay an alarmingly high price for a liter of petrol or diesel at the pump. The Average National Recommended Price (GLA) of a liter of Euro 95 (E10) at the pump is still €2.26 at the time of writing. That of a liter of diesel is €1.94. Yet there is reason to be hopeful. Petrol and diesel prices could fall as a result of the drop in oil prices.

Paul van Selms of consumer collective United Consumers tells Nu.nl that oil companies pass on a drop in oil prices in fuel prices with a delay. Price changes at the pump are adjusted upwards more quickly when oil prices rise, as was previously shown. Van Selms expects that we will soon pay less for a liter of petrol or diesel if oil prices remain low for a while.
