Once again we have a Skoda Octavia Combi RS on the dynamometer. This time an Octavia RS 230.
A tuned 230 hp, more or less than 300 hp?
Belgium always delivers us wonderful things. Beer, stew, mayonnaise, publishers and a Skoda Octavia Combi RS with 230 hp. It arrived in our country in February 2018 and Tim van der Schaft from Soesterberg purchased it in March last year. He didn’t have to think long about it.
Tim van der Schaft completed HTS Autotechniek in Arnhem. You can safely label him as above average interested in cars. He likes nice models, with spirit or with a split personality. He took his time looking. He found Subaru interesting, but a Lexus CT 200h was also on his list. His resume so far includes a Suzuki Swift Sport, a BMW 323ti and … a 2004 Skoda Octavia RS. Yes, that was the first finger exercise of the Czechs to go sporty with this car. This somewhat angular Octavia had a prominent grille and the rear lights of a Passat. It had a 1.8-liter twenty-valve engine with 180 horsepower. All in all, it is not surprising that Tim came home with a newer RS. In daily life he also works with cars, but big ones with lots of seats; he works at the Evobus importer.
Skoda Octavia RS has two faces
What about that split personality, Tim? “He has two faces. It is actually a good and very practical family and business car. Step on the accelerator and it turns into a fast driver’s car.” Tim does everything with it, such as city traffic, commuting and vacation to Croatia. It nevertheless achieves an average consumption of 1 to 12. On long distances, it even goes towards 1 to 14.
Stage 2 chip tuned
This Octavia has been taken care of. He is ‘stage 2’ chip tuned. “That makes it even more fun, because it now feels even faster. He went to the horsepower shop in Belgium. but I don’t know exactly how much power he has,” says Tim. As mentioned, he doesn’t pull out all the stops all the time. “It’s just nice to have that boost of power on board. I think it’s very cool that the 230 produces a good sound in contrast to the 220. The 220 hp version is too quiet for my liking. This 230 gives a bit more experience.”
This Octavia RS does have a sper
In 2015, AutoWeek entered an endurance test Skoda Octavia Combi RS with 220 hp and drove 21,000 km. The average consumption was then 1 in 12 (just like Tim now), no oil consumption, great performance with a top of 242 real kilometers per hour and a sprint time from 0 to 100 of 6.6 seconds. That was even faster than the factory stated at the time. Our conclusions were: nice and eager, nice and practical, but a pity that there is no limited slip differential. Oh yes, we did not find it really cheap with a purchase price of 40 grand. Our Tim took that 230 precisely because of the sound. In addition, the 230 does have a mechanical limited slip differential.
Another dynamometer measurement Octavia RS with 300 hp
We’re going to let this Skoda of Tim roar to see where it stands. We have never had a 230 before, but we did have an RS 220 fairly recently. That was also overhauled and it produced a nice 317 hp. We can’t match that today, but from 230 hp to a nice, round 300 hp is of course fine. The torque is impressive at no less than 420 Nm. Tim is satisfied. “This gives me a nice driving, strong and practical all-rounder. This is excellent, as far as I’m concerned.”
