Safety is a top priority for many people when using a computer. They want their computer to be well protected. So they install multiple security programs running at the same time. But did you know that this is not necessary at all? We strongly advise against it.
Protect well
You may find it very important to protect your computer against viruses and other security problems. If you bought the computer or laptop new, it sometimes already contains a version of a paid security package. But just to be sure, you also have a free application like Avast! Free Antivirus. Prevention is better than cure, you think.
Do not combine
But in this case it works differently. Antivirus protection works best if you only use one antivirus. If more are active, the antivirus programs can work against each other. This can lead to holes in the protection. So it is necessary to use only one antivirus program at a time.
Which ones to keep?
Have you installed multiple programs? Then delete all but one of them. We cannot determine which that is for you. If you paid for a program, you could leave that program. Do you have multiple antivirus programs on your computer? For example, read the article ‘Virus scanner selection aid’ and decide which one you want to keep. Incidentally, Windows 10 and 11 also have their own antivirus program. This is already present in the operating system by default and works fine. It is therefore not necessarily necessary to install a virus scanner from another provider.
Uninstall program
You can remove excess programs via the settings. Read in the tip ‘Uninstall a program in Windows’ how to do this in Windows 10 and 11.
Be careful not to delete too much. Your computer may prompt you to restart after uninstalling. Then do this so that the computer can complete the uninstallation properly.
