Opel Astra GSe is new sporty plug-in hybrid

You undoubtedly know the GSE label from the Opel Commodore and the Monza. In 2022 you write GSE as GSe and it does not stand for Grand Sport Einspritzung (or later Grand Sport Injection, GSI), but for Grand Sport Electric. The ‘Electric’ part of this is important, because Opel only applies the label to electrified models. It is therefore not surprising that the Astra GSe with which the label is brought to life, has a plug-in hybrid powertrain.

Opel Astra Sports Tourer GSe

The Opel Astra was already available with a 180 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. Technical brother Peugeot 308 is available with the same plug hardware, but as a GT Hybrid it is also supplied with a 225 hp plug-in hybrid powertrain. Opel now hangs the same stronger plug-in hybrid technology in the Astra GSe. That means: a 180 hp 1.6 and a 110 hp electric motor, good for 225 hp and 360 Nm of torque. Opel has not yet released detailed technical specifications, although the 7.5 counts that the Peugeot 308 GT Hybrid 225 needs for the o-100 sprint are undoubtedly indicative of what the Astra GSe has to offer. The station version of the Astra, the Astra Sports Tourer, will also be available as a GSe. In the back of the plug-in versions is a 12.4 kWh battery from which you can squeeze about 60 electric kilometers.

The Astras GSe are one centimeter closer to the asphalt and the dampers are tuned more tightly than those of the less potent versions. The ESP system is also tuned differently for the GSe versions. From the outside, you can recognize the sporty versions mainly by the 18-inch wheels, the design of which is inspired by the copies under the Manta GSe. In addition, Opel gives the GSe’s custom bumpers filled in with more black parts and a set of GSe badges. In the interior you will find sports seats upholstered in Alcantara. We don’t have prices yet.
