The new Opel Astra is coming and so we get to see images again. It is a camouflaged copy, but that already makes a lot clear.
It is nice that the new Astra is immortalized in a number of photos next to its predecessor. In particular, the image from the side makes it clear that the Astra, just like the Peugeot 308 on which it is technically based, gets slightly different proportions. The hood is flatter, the windscreen is slightly further back and the car as a whole seems a bit elongated.
This is supported by the figures, which Auto Media Portal has already got hold of. According to them, the Astra is 4.37 meters long, 1.47 meters high and has a wheelbase of 2.67 meters. This is longer and lower than the outgoing model, with a wheelbase that is 13 mm larger and a width increased by 51 mm.
PSA Controls
On the outside we naturally see the well-known Opel Vizor front, although we already knew that after the latest teaser and the introduction of the Mokka, Crossland and Grandland. The interior of the new Opel Astra can also be seen in the images, but still heavily camouflaged. Still, it’s clear that Opel isn’t sticking to the GM-borrowed controls in the current range forever. For example, we observe a new steering wheel, while the poker and levers on the steering column also show many similarities with the ones used by Peugeot and Citroën.
Opel Astra
Two plugins
Auto-Medienportal confirms that the new Astra shares its powertrains with the new 308, although that is no big surprise. This means that the Astra will also be available in two different plug-in hybrid variants, with 180 and 225 hp. In addition, there is at least a Puretech three-cylinder with 130 hp and a 1.5 diesel with the same power.
Incidentally, we can also quickly set off with this camouflaged Astra. We will therefore share our first findings in the short term.
