300 hp power, sportier chassis
Opel pulls the curtain on the second model that may bear the new GSe label: the Opel Grandland GSe. As with the Astra GSe, it is a plug-in hybrid with a sportier edge, but the Grandland GSe is a lot stronger.
You may remember the letters GSE from Opels from the past. That designation returned in 2021 on the special Opel Manta GSe Elektromod and that turned out to be a harbinger of more. With the arrival of the Astra GSe, GSe as a sporty label (now with a small ‘e’ for ‘electric’ instead of Einspritzung) is back! The next new Opel to feature GSe is this Grandland GSe. Just like the Astra GSe, this is an extra strong plug-in hybrid version with a sporty character. In terms of power, however, the Astra GSe does not compete with this Grandland GSe, but more about that in a moment.
The Opel Grandland GSe distinguishes itself from its lesser brothers from the outside with the optional black hood, special 19-inch wheels and a real diffuser at the bottom of its rear. In the interior you will find sports seats covered with Alcantara and of course the three letters remind you that you are in a special Grandland. On a technical level you will notice it all, because the Opel Grandland GSe gets the strongest powertrain that you can find in the SUV. A blown 1.6 petrol engine is supported by two electric motors, together good for 300 hp system power, a 0-100 sprint that lasts 6.1 seconds and a top of 235 km/h. In full electric mode, the Grandland GSe does not go faster than 135 km/h.
These are numbers that may look familiar to you. That may be right: the four-wheel drive Grandland GSe has the same drivetrain as the Hybrid4 version, which has quietly disappeared from the price list. However, the chassis of the Opel Grandland GSe has been tuned more tightly, thanks in part to Koni shock absorbers and firmer springs. Finally, the Grandland GSe has a more directly tuned steering. It is not yet known what the Opel Grandland GSe will cost. The Hybrid4 will already be at just under €55,000, the GSe is logically still a bit above that.
