Opel Insignia Grand Sport GSI Edition Bitter – Into the Wild

A modern Opel Insignia in ‘In the Wild’? Yes, but only because it carries Opel Bitter logos. A true unique!

Bitter. Opel enthusiasts immediately prick up their ears when they hear that name, because with models such as the CD and SC, the brand once brought models with Opel technology to the market that appealed to the imagination. Later on, Bitter became a kind of ‘breeder’ with firmly tackled versions of the last Vectra and the first Insignia, of which one of the few copies built made it to this section. Even later there was this car: the Opel Insignia Grand Sport GSI Edition Bitter.

Indeed, Bitter does not even dare to sell this Insignia under the brand name Bitter anymore. It’s an Opel, but with a Bitter sauce. Incidentally, Bitter logos are still part of this, but the ‘Bitter fiction’ does not amount to much more than that. AutoWeek photographer Willem Verstraten came across this German-registered car in the Netherlands and during working hours, which explains the presence of the Volkswagen ID Buzz endurance tester. It seems to be about the ‘Bitter’ which is also used for the brochure of this model. The GSI logos indicate that this is the top model, but in principle Bitter also supplies the Insignia ‘just’ with more modest engines.

We bet that this black Insignia is equipped with a 210 hp diesel with four-wheel drive. The bumpers differ from what we’re used to from the regular Insignia, but only because they’re carried over from the GSi version. The wheels seem unique to Bitter, just like the ornament behind the front wheel arches. The chairs may also be there. Although these parts are also borrowed from the GSi, the special beige upholstery with stitching in a diamond pattern makes it something special.
