The brand new Opel Mokka, which, unlike its predecessor, will not be called ‘Mokka X’, is being prepared for production. The first cars will roll off the production line at the end of this year. Opel already shows the still heavily camouflaged crossover from all angles.
The Opel Mokka X, with its eight years old, is now a fairly aged relic from Opel’s GM era. Not surprisingly, the car seems to have quietly disappeared from the range, although a successor is not yet ready. We have to wait until next year, because then it is the turn of the brand new Mokka. Yes, without X behind it, because strangely enough Opel drops the ‘X’ again for its smallest long-legged. That while it (in line with the Crossland X and Grandland X) was put in special behind in 2016.
Either way, the name isn’t the biggest change. The Mokka is poured over a design sauce that gives the Opel a special new face. The GT X Concept, unveiled in 2018, was a bright preview of that new look. Tighter lines, especially on the nose, with even a hint of retro inspiration. In the photos that Opel is now sending out into the world, it is clearly visible that the new Mokka will be the production version of that concept car.
The basis of the new Mocha is, how could it be otherwise, a friend of his French brothers. The platform on which the Peugeot 2008 and DS 3 Crossback thrones, that is. That means that we can logically also expect a comparable list of PureTech engines. Three-cylinder petrol power sources with powers of 100, 130 and 150 hp. Perhaps the most interesting thing is that there will be a fully electric variant. For that we also look over the border in France and then it is expected that it will get a 136 hp electric motor, with a range of more than 300 kilometers (WLTP). The disclosure can not be long in coming. Opel reports that it will start production at the end of this year and the new Mokka will hit the market early next year.
