OPPO has proposed a 240W SuperVOOC fast charger that can fully charge a phone in 9 minutes. In addition, OPPO is also releasing a 150W fast charging technology that should make a battery last twice as long.
OPPO fast charging technology
At the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, OPPO already presented its Find X5 series of flagships. Nevertheless, the Chinese brand also uses events to show its latest technology, even if it immediately appears in a product for consumers. OPPO is traditionally strong in fast charging and the company also shows that with two new fast charging technologies.
First of all, OPPO is introducing its 240W SuperVOOC charger. It is designed with 24V/10A technology and is able to charge a 4,500 mAh battery to 100 percent in about 9 minutes. The charger has three charging pumps and sufficient power supply. OPPO also tested the heat dissipation, guaranteeing efficiency and increased safety according to the brand.
240W charging and safety
According to OPPO, several security measures are used regarding the adapter, the charging cable and the smartphone itself. The 240W SuperVOOC charger works with a custom battery safety monitoring chip that checks whether the phone’s battery is damaged by external forces during use. In addition, 13 temperature sensors have been built into the phone that should reduce the risk of overheating.
Everything points to the 240W charger becoming a technology that OPPO will use in the longer term, while a new 150W fast charger will apparently be deployed soon. A rumor spreader stated Monday that partner OnePlus is working on a smartphone with a 150W fast charger. According to OPPO, this charger needs 15 minutes to bring a 4,500 mAh battery to full capacity and after 5 minutes you have reached 50 percent. The 150W fast charger works with two charging pumps that can support charging up to 20V/7.5A.
Battery Health Engine
Even more important with this charger is the so-called Battery Health Engine (BHE), which is a system that optimizes the life of the battery. The technology keeps the battery performing at 80% of its original capacity after 1,600 charge cycles, doubling the current industry standard of 800 cycles.
With BHE, the electrodes are continuously repaired during the battery’s charge and discharge cycles. This creates a more stable and durable Solid Electrolyte Interface (SEI), which effectively protects the electrode material from damage caused by solvent molecules. Xiaomi announced a 200W fast charger last year, but later had to admit that the charger has an impact on the battery life.
OPPO wants to apply BHE to both high and middle segment telephones. We expect the 150W fast charger soon with new devices from OPPO, Realme and OnePlus. These are all brands that use SuperVOOC. The new OPPO Find X5 Pro appeared last week with an 80W charger.
