OPPO has officially announced its latest software shell, ColorOS 13. This software is based on Android 13, which is the Android version that Google recently announced. Here you will find all the new features in ColorOS 13 and an overview of the OPPO phones that get the latest software shell.
Android 13 and ColorOS 13
Google announced the stable version of Android 13 on August 15, 2022. This new Android version comes with all kinds of new features and improvements. For example, the Material You design has been expanded further, Bedtime mode is given more options and language settings per app have been added. In addition to the improvements from Google, each manufacturer will add a series of improvements of its own to its software shell. You will find all the new features of Android 13 here.
- All about Android 13
Samsung is already extensively testing its variant and will soon announce its stable version of One UI 5 and then release it for various phones. OnePlus has already finished testing and has already officially announced its OxygenOS 13 software. We also already know which OnePlus phones will get this update. Now it’s OPPO’s turn. This brand announces its ColorOS 13 software and also announces a timeline showing the phones that will get Android 13.
Aquamorphic Design
OPPO and OnePlus have collaborated on a software shell based on Android 13. Both are based on the so-called Aquamorphic design that should create a fluid, vibrant and inclusive user interface. For example, there is a new theme palette inspired by the changing color of light between sunrise and sunset at sea level. Also, the new system font should improve text readability. Furthermore, a distinctive map style can be found throughout the interface, which ensures a concise and well-arranged representation of the various parts.

The Aquamorphic design includes several effects that can be found throughout the interface, and there are customizable layouts for different screen sizes and improved icons to ensure greater uniformity.

Smoother and longer battery life
The so-called Dynamic Computing Engine can be found for the first time in ColorOS 13. OPPO has developed this technology itself and it should make the software run smoother and more stable. A longer battery life is also guaranteed and more apps can be kept open in the background. For this there is now a better balance between high performance and low power consumption.

Improvements for the always-on display
New always-on images
Also new in ColorOS 13 are the Home images that you can set for the always-on screen. They depict some wild animals in nature, whose habitats are suffering from climate change. The images should raise awareness about current climate changes among users.

Support for Spotify and Bitmoji
There are also a number of new functions in ColorOS 13. For example, the always-on screen can now also show extra information from music apps, such as Spotify. There are not only buttons for playing music, but you can also see, for example, your most recently listened to playlists. In addition, you can personalize the always-on screen with your Bitmoji.

AOD refresh rate reduced to 1Hz
The OPPO Find X5 Pro has an LTPO2 screen, which is the second generation LTPO. This allows a variable refresh rate from 1 to 120 Hz. The refresh rate is screwed up when you use the phone, and back when you put it down for a while. Thanks to this technology, the battery is used more efficiently.
With ColorOS 13, OPPO lowers the refresh rate of the always-on screen on the X5 Pro to 1Hz in some cases. Here, in some scenarios, as much as 30% power consumption can be saved.
Multi-screen Connect
OPPO has a Multi-Screen Connect feature that allows you to open your phone screen on your Windows PC. You can drag files between your phone and PC or work on a document that is actually on your phone. In addition, the feature also shows notifications from your phone in Windows. This feature now also works with the OPPO Pad Air.

In addition, the functionality has been expanded. You can now display up to three windows from your phone on your Windows PC at the same time: one for screen mirroring and two for other apps. This feature increases productivity by eliminating the need to switch between devices for apps.
Privacy and Security
OPPO has taken over a number of features from Android 13, such as the automatic deletion of clipboard history and the new Wi-Fi permission. This permission allows apps to connect to Wi-Fi devices without sharing the location of the Wi-Fi device with those apps. No permission is required for this either. This provides more privacy for the user, since certain apps do not always need to know where, for example, a camera is located in the house.
These OPPO phones will get ColorOS 13
ColorOS 13 will first be available for the OPPO Find X5 and Find X5 Pro. That rollout starts today. Other smartphones from OPPO will follow later this year. OPPO has an update schedule ready for phones in more than 60 countries, for 160 million users. This is the biggest update plan ever in the history of ColorOS. Below you will find the complete list.
