Organize files in Dropbox

Organize your files neatly in Dropbox by organizing them.

Whoever uses Dropbox stores all kinds of files online. The files are safe on the Internet, and you can access them from any computer with an Internet connection. It’s tempting to save the files haphazardly, but that quickly becomes a mess. It is better to organize files neatly so that they can be quickly found and used.

  • Go to the website www.dropbox.com and log in.
  • Click on the left All files.
  • Think of some main folders in which you will sort files. For example, there is already a ‘Photos’ folder for photos. But you may want other folders, for example for special occasions or to store all your administration. Create a new folder for this. Click on the right of the screen To make > folder.
  • Type the name of the new folder, for example ‘Administration’.

  • Click on Only you if you want only you to have access to the folder.
  • click on To make.

Now move all files related to the administration (or your own subject) to the new folder:

  • Click on the left if necessary aall files.
  • Move the mouse over the file you want to move. A white box appears. Click on this white box. The box gets a blue check mark. This means that the file is selected. Repeat for all files you want to move.
  • Have all the relevant files been selected? Click above the selected files Move.
  • A new window will appear. Click on the folder where the files should go.
  • click on Move.

Another useful way to organize files is to mark them with a star. These will appear on the Dropbox home page. Files that are important or that you use a lot can be found so quickly. Star marking is very easy:

  • Click on the left All files.
  • Click on the folder where the file is located.
  • Between the file name and the date, there is a star icon. Click on this. If the star turns dark (blue or gray), the file is marked as favorite.

View all starred files like this:

  • Click the Dropbox logo in the top left.
  • On the homepage, there is a “Starred” section at the top. It contains your marked files.
  • Does a file have to give up its star? Then click on the star to remove the mark.
