Paint 3D: working with 3D

Paint 3D: working with 3DPaint 3D is the drawing program in Windows 10. Get to know the extensive possibilities of the program, such as drawing in 3D.

Paint 3D, the successor to the Paint program, allows people to create 3D drawings. 3D stands for ‘three-dimensional’. Objects then do not appear ‘flat’, but seem to have depth. Make your own 3D shapes in Paint 3D, give them a color and view them from all sides. It is also possible to download other people’s designs and edit them yourself.

Make your own 3D shape like this:

  • Open Paint 3D and click New.
  • Click at the top 3D shapes (cube icon).
  • Click on the desired shape, for example of a sphere, under ‘3D objects’ on the right.
  • Select a color at the bottom right if necessary.
  • Want to see more options? Right click Amended to see more editing options and optionally choose one of the options, for example Polished material.
  • Draw with the mouse on the white canvas. To do this, click on the sheet, hold down the mouse button and drag the mouse. Release the mouse button once you have the desired figure.

Insert 3D Shape

  • On the right are several tools. Want to know what a tool is for? Hover over the part with the mouse pointer and the tool’s function appears in a speech bubble.
  • Satisfied? Click outside the shape to close the editing options.

In the 3D functions there is also the option ‘3D models’. These are standard shapes that have already been designed. You can include this in a drawing. As an example we draw a fish next to the sphere.

  • Under ‘3D models’, click on the icon of a fish.
  • Choose a color if necessary.
  • Draw a fish with the mouse pointer (and the left mouse button pressed).

Insert Default Model

Insert a realistic cat or rather a beautiful flower? Do this through the 3D library. This one is in English.

  • Click on the tab at the top 3D library.
  • Click on the desired theme, for example animals (animals), Flowers and Plants (flowers and plants) or realistic (realistic).
  • Click on the picture you like. We choose a cat and turtle.

Insert 3D images

Feel free to give the 3D shapes a different color afterwards.

  • If necessary, click the shape to select it. The handles on the edge of the image appear.
  • Right click Edit color.
  • Click in the menu on the desired color, for example turquoise.
    Change color
  • The sphere changes color. Click anywhere outside the sphere on the sheet of paper to make the handles disappear.

Easily resize 3D shapes.

  • Click the shape you want to edit.
  • A frame appears around the image with a square in each corner. Makes the image larger or smaller.
  • Click on a square in the corner of the image and hold down the mouse button.
  • Drag the square in or out. Satisfied? Release the mouse button.
  • Then move the image to the correct spot. To do this, click in the center of the 3D image, hold down the mouse button and drag the image to the desired location.

The image is still flat, in 2D. Click at the top 3D shapes > 3D view3D view to make it into a 3D view. Use the percentage slider to zoom in or out. Are you done watching in 3D? Then click again 3D view to disable the option.
