‘Parking alarm clock and Amsterdam in conversation’

The municipality of Amsterdam has decided not to take preliminary relief proceedings against the Parking Alarm app and wants to consult with the people behind the app. Founder Luis Roman reports that he has received a letter to that effect from the lawyer of the municipality.

The Parking Alarm app says it sends ‘forgetful’ parkers a message when a scan vehicle passes their parked car. Anyone who receives such a message has five minutes to pay the parking costs and avoid a fine. According to the municipality of Amsterdam, the company is guilty of privacy violations and incites tax evasion. She then threatened last month with summary proceedings if Parking Alarm Clock would not stop its activities within seven days.

The founder of the app, Luis Roman, said he did not intend to do so and is now repeating that. He says he wants to talk to the municipality. When asked, a spokesman for the responsible alderman Sharon Dijksma was unable to respond.

The app uses dash cams that are linked to a platform that reads video images. If a scan car is registered with these cameras, you will receive a warning on the app. The start-up charges the subscribers € 1.49 for each warning message received.
