Peugeot 208 is the Car of the Year 2020

Although the entire party in Geneva was canceled, the final of the election of the Car of the Year went ahead as usual. The Peugeot 208 takes the title off.

It is a special award this year, because the corona virus makes the final without an audience. After a presentation by, among others, Olivier Rihs, director of the Salon of Geneva, the Peugeot 208 came out as the winner. Six finalists took part in the annual race. The Peugeot eventually won with 281 points. The Tesla Model 3 (242 points) and the Porsche Taycan (222 points) finish in second and third place.

A total of sixty judges, led by Frank Janssen, may decide which car is best for them. Each jury member receives 25 points that they can distribute among the cars. One car can then receive a maximum of 10 points per person. The fight this year was ultimately between five Europeans, one Asian and one American. Because in addition to the Peugeot 208, the Tesla Model 3 and Toyota Corolla and the BMW 1 series, Renault Clio, Ford Puma and Porsche Taycan also took part in the battle for the title. The Toyota Corolla and BMW 1 series can ultimately count on the least points.

The Peugeot 208 takes over from the I-Pace. He won last year after an exciting race of cars such as the Alpine A110. The year before, the Volvo XC40 was awarded as the big winner. This then preceded cars such as the Peugeot 3008 (2017), Opel Insignia (2009), Renault Clio (2006) and Toyota Yaris (2000). In 1964, the title Car of the Year was first awarded to the Rover 2000.
