Philips TV introduces a new premium OLED TV in the Netherlands and Belgium. AI and smart technology should turn the Philips OLED+959 Ambilight TV into a very advanced home theater, including Ambilight plus.
During a press event in London by TP-Vision, the company behind Philips/Ambilight TVs, the Philips OLED+959 Ambilight TV was shown. PC-Active was also invited and got a nice look behind the scenes of this TV. The location of the press event was also great: the famous Abbey Road Studios, known for The Beatles, but also hundreds of other musicians/bands such as Pink Floyd recorded and recorded their music here. In addition, a lot of well-known film music is recorded in the studios of Abbey Road Studios, such as music from Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Harry Potter, etc.
Philips OLED+959 Ambilight TV main features
• The premium OLED TV was presented in October during the celebration of Ambilight’s 20th anniversary and will be available in stores in mid-October. The product is equipped with the latest AI and smart technology and available in 65 inch screen size.
• The OLED+ TV combines the new 8th generation P5 AI Dual Engine processor with a META 2.0 OLED panel, the new Ambilight plus system and the integrated sound system from Bowers & Wilkins.
• Ambilight plus has been developed in recent years by the tech experts at the Innovation Site in Ghent and offers a more dynamic, higher resolution version of the well-known light halo on the wall behind the screen. The Ambilight system has custom-made light modules and lenses for a unique multi-dimensional effect.
• Ambient Intelligence V3 optimizes HDR performance for bright viewing conditions, while preserving the director’s creative intent in dark spaces.
• Unique AI Sports Optimization automatically detects sports and football content and provides optimized motion settings specifically for this sport.
• A new Game Bar allows gamers to quickly improve, adjust and monitor their settings via a menu without stopping the game. This includes the MEMC motion enhancement feature and 144Hz VRR (Variable Refresh Rate) for Dolby Vision Gaming mode.
• The OLED TV has a discreetly integrated Bowers & Wilkins sound system with speakers positioned below, around and in the screen. The advanced system delivers 5.1.2 audio performance with 18 specially developed drivers and 102W amplification.
• Enhanced connectivity with Matter and Control 4 compatibility ensures seamless connection with other Smart Home devices.
• The OLED+959 runs on the latest version of Google TV OS.
Smart light sensor adjusts brightness, gamma and color response in real time
Ambient Intelligence V3 offers optimization of HDR based on ambient light, working in harmony with the HDR Advanced feature to monitor and adjust HDR performance. The smart technology uses a light sensor in the TV that optimizes the settings based on the color temperature of the room. Based on the analyzed ambient light, adjustments in the areas of brightness, gamma and color response are made in real time. This ensures that the striking HDR performance is maintained in bright viewing conditions, but also in dark rooms.
Ambient Intelligence V3 increases contrast in real time to better match the light level of the display for dark scenes or to reduce clipping in very bright scenes.
New algorithms in P5 AI Dual Engine
AI Machine Sharpness V2 uses new algorithms and the extra power of the new dual chip P5 AI to create more detailed and highly realistic images. The new Smart Bit Enhancement V3 algorithm boosts 8-bit video to near 14-bit precision to resolve banding in low-quality gray areas without losing detail in other parts of the image.
A new AI Sports Optimization feature automatically detects sports and football content and offers a special motion setting that ensures striking sharpness and fluid motion specifically optimized for the sport.
Peak brightness record for OLED technology – 3000 nits
The META 2.0 panel features Micro Lens Array Plus technology with improved light efficiencies, thanks to optimized angles and curvatures of the MLA lenses. The new META Multi Booster algorithm increases peak brightness to 3000 nits, a new record for OLED technology.
The META 2.0 Multi Booster algorithm also includes a Detail Enhancer to optimize image quality in very low grayscale, optimizing HDR performance for both bright and dark images.
Ambilight plus: invented and developed in the Benelux
The viewing experience is further improved by the Ambilight plus system developed in Ghent. Multiple domed lenses have been added to the individual color LEDs on the rear.

Ambilight plus can therefore more accurately track movements within the screen image and increases the number of zones to 192 to create a more dynamic, higher resolution halo. Ambilight plus can then also project up to four different halos at different depths, creating a unique multi-dimensional effect.
Better gaming experience through advanced technology
The Philips OLED+959 offers a premium gaming experience with an improved Game Bar. Gamers can quickly adjust, improve and monitor their settings. The number of unique picture enhancements has been increased from three to five, with the OLED+959 adding a Center Zoom and Edge Enhancer to the Cross Hair, Shadow Enhancer and Color Filter found on other premium Philips TVs.
The OLED+959 offers a low latency of only 5 ms with a 120Hz input and 13ms with a 60Hz input. MEMC allows gamers to enable the Smooth Motion option for smooth movements with minimal latency (latency), reduced from 200 ms to 31 ms.
5.1.2 sound system from British Bowers & Wilkins
Naturally, the OLED+959, as the most premium model within the Philips range, also offers leading TV sound quality thanks to a new integrated 5.1.2 sound system. The Bowers & Wilkins audio engineering team has used its expertise to create premium sound from compact spaces around and within the screen, using a total of 18 drivers without compromising performance. For viewers who want even deeper bass sound, the OLED+959 offers the option to connect an external subwoofer.
Characteristic European Design from Amsterdam
The OLED+959 also excels exceptionally in terms of design, with the best of European design from its own design team in Amsterdam (Amsterdam Design Office). The sleek device can be wall-mounted or placed on a minimalist, mid-gray aluminum and steel stand.
