“We only protect what we appreciate,” write Thorben thank you, Dominik Eulberg and Thomas Hörren in their illustrated book.
The trio of photographer, knowledge broker and biologist has created a change of perspective: the viewer goes at eye level with domestic insects and is amazed on each side whether the beauty of these animals. Thorben thanks use the focus stacking. With this recording technique, up to 1,000 individual images per motif are necessary in order to be able to portray three -dimensional objects in the micro area. The result is enthusiastic: the gold -shiny rose beetle, for example, can be seen in its full splendor.
The illustrated book reminds us: We live on a planet of insects – and they are our life insurance as pollinators. 1.4 billion insect individuals come to a person. They are survival artists on land, in the water and in the air. The authors don’t shy away from superlatives. With 9,600 species, skin wings are currently the most species -rich insect regulations in Germany. Some may surprise the variety of bees, wasps and ants. Libelles, in turn, are among the oldest still living animal regulations on earth. Impressive: Große Librels such as the blue-green mosaic boys can accelerate from 0 to 50 km/h-four times as fast as a Formula 1 racing car. The pigeon tail can still top: from 0 to 70 km/h. The colibri -like moth flies up to 100 flowers in one minute.
Eulberg – in addition to his work as a non -fiction author as a DJ – and listening – co -author of the Krefeld study – does not leave a picture without a picture and no technical term unexplained. For example, Lepidoptera, the scientific order name of the butterflies, means as much as “shed wing”. Detailed recordings from Lilagold fire briefs to the thistle butterfly show how diverse the shape of these scales can fail.
The illustrated book has a great feel and enjoy leafing. In the end, interested parties will find a practical glossary and the research sources. Salome Berblinger
