The iPhone 13 has received several new features and the photographic style is one of them. But what do these styles actually do? And how do you use them in your photos?
What are photographic styles on the iPhone 13?
Photographic Styles let you adjust the style of the photo even before taking the photo with your iPhone. It’s like a filter that you put over your photos beforehand. However, there is one big difference with a normal filter: the photographic style takes into account the content of the photo. For example, your skin color remains (largely) intact when you set a filter.
The photographic styles are available on iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Set photographic styles
To use a photographic style, you must set the style before taking the photo. You choose a photographic style in the following way.
Taking Photos with Photographic Style on iPhone 13:
- Open the Camera app and tap the arrow at the top;
- Tap the photographic style button at the bottom, which is the button with the three squares;
- Choose one of the styles by swiping;
- If necessary, adjust the ‘Tint’ and ‘Warmth’ with the two sliders;
- Take the photo as you normally would.
The available photographic styles on the iPhone 13
When setting up a photographic filter in the Camera app, you can choose from several styles. These styles are:
- Default
- Rich contrast
- lively
- Warm
- Cool
To make a photo look warmer, use the ‘Vivid’ or ‘Warm’ style. Yellow tones then get a little more emphasis. You use the ‘Cool’ option to make the photo appear a bit colder. Blue tones are then brought out more. You can also swipe under Hue or Warmth to create your own photographic style.

Turn off photographic style
The photographic style cannot be removed afterwards, keep that in mind when taking your photos. You can still adjust the photo afterwards in the ‘normal’ way, but then you change the settings of the entire photo.
If you don’t want to use a photographic style next time, you should turn the feature off first. You do this by launching the camera app, going to the photographic styles and setting the style to ‘Default’.
Choose photographic styles through settings
The styles can also be found in the settings of your iPhone. You do this by going to ‘Settings>Camera>Photographic Styles’. Here you can also see exactly what the styles do. By pressing the blue button below, you switch on the photographic style.
