A number of iPhone users have suddenly experienced a strange problem since the latest update of the device. It seems that some images in their photo library suddenly take on a strange red cast when you open and enlarge them in the Photos app. According to multiple posts and questions on Reddit The problem seems to mainly occur with photos taken on an Android phone and then imported to the iPhone.

Fortunately, you don’t have to worry right away, because no data will be lost and your photos can still be saved. The original photos are still in your library, but iOS misinterprets the color information in some of these photos, causing the red effect.

Fortunately, you can undo the red effect yourself quite easily. You do this by opening a red photo on your iPhone and tapping the three lines at the bottom. Then tap ‘Recovery’ at the top. This will cause the Photos app to remove the errant filter and reappear the photo in its correct colors.

It is still unclear exactly why this red photo iPhone problem arises. It probably has to do with how iOS reads and processes the color profiles of Android photos. There may be some slight variations in the photo’s metadata that are causing confusion. Apple hasn’t made an official statement yet, but a future iOS update will likely fix this strange bug.
