The Pixelmator Photo app is one of the most accessible alternatives to Photoshop and has now made the move to the iPhone. In this article, we’ll tell you what makes Pixelmator Photo so good!
Pixelmator Photo on iPhone: easier than Photoshop
Pixelmator Photo was already available on the iPad, but now iPhone-only owners can also get started with this fine photo editing program. And the great thing about this app is that you don’t need to have extensive knowledge about editing photos. Pixelmator Photo has quite a few editing options, but can also adjust a lot of things automatically.
What makes Pixelmator Photo on the iPhone (and iPad) so accessible is the ML fix feature. This button uses ‘Machine Learning’ to independently optimize the settings of a photo. It’s a bit like the magic wand in the ‘Photos’ app on your iPhone, but better.
It is therefore also possible to get started with all the options yourself and to adjust the colors exactly to your own preference. That’s nice if you know a lot about photo editing, but for all other avid iPhone photographers, the ML-fix button is an ideal tool.

Pixelmator Photo vs Pixelmator Pro
The team behind Pixelmator took a good look at the features in Pixelmator Pro and only ported the essentials to Pixelmator Photo. Important to know in advance: this is not a Pixelmator Pro for the iPhone, but a stripped-down version that is especially intended for photographers or people who work a lot with photo editing.
Unlike Pixelmator Pro, Pixelmator Photo on the iPhone and iPad actually consists of two main tasks: editing the colors in your photo and buffing out imperfections. By tapping the plaster icon, you can remove objects or people from a photo. That works great if you want to brush out a small detail, such as a flying bird in the background or a lost person on a lawn.

Good news! Already have Pixelmator Photo on iPad? Then the iPhone version of Pixelmator Photo can be downloaded completely free of charge. Incidentally, it can happen that you still see the price of the app in the App Store (and not the cloud). But if you try to ‘buy’ the app anyway, you will receive a message that you can download the app for free.
If you don’t have Pixelmator Photo yet, the app is now temporarily for sale for the introductory price of 3.99 euros. After the introduction period, the app will cost 7.99 euros. You need iOS 14 or iOS 15 to use Pixelmator Photo on your iPhone.
