Choice of two plug versions
The new BMW 5 Series could already be ordered as an electric i5 and with conventional petrol and diesel engines. Now BMW has also put the plug-in hybrid variants of the 5-series Sedan in the order books, which means that the prices of the BMW 530e and 550e xDrive are known.
In any case, the BMW 5-series Sedan – we are still waiting for the Touring – will also come to the Netherlands with two plug-in hybrid powertrains. The mildest of the bunch is the rear-wheel drive 530e, but mild certainly does not mean that you lack power. Just like the 520i, the 530e has a 190 hp four-cylinder petrol engine under the hood. However, that machine is supported by a 184 hp electric motor, which lifts the system power to 299 hp and 450 Nm. You can sprint from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.4 seconds and its top speed is 230 km/h. Much more important is its electric range. That is certainly not disappointing either. The battery pack with a net capacity of 17.6 kWh (gross: 19.4 kWh) gives the 5 Series an electric range of 102 kilometers, depending on the selected version. The BMW 5-series costs at least €70,272 as the 530th.
Is that 299 hp not enough for you or would you like a six-cylinder or four-wheel drive? Even then you don’t have to leave the plug-in hybrid 5-series behind. It is also available as a 550e xDrive. It does not have a four-cylinder, but a 313 hp and 450 Nm strong 3.0 inline-six. That machine also benefits from a 184 hp electric motor, which in this case means that the system power is 489 hp and 700 Nm. In 4.3 seconds you can reach a speed of 100 km/h and acceleration only becomes a thing of the past at 250 km/h. The BMW 5 Series as the 550e xDrive can travel up to 90 kilometers on electric power alone. His price: €83,349.
The prices of the BMW 5 Series with petrol and diesel engines and those of the electric i5 were already released when the new 5 Series was unveiled.
